⛰️Geography

Morocco is located in northwest corner of Africa, bordered by the North Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Algeria to the east, and Western Sahara to the south. It is the only African country with coastal exposure to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

📚History

Morocco's recorded history begins with Phoenician colonization (8th-6th centuries BCE), though the area was inhabited by Berbers for thousands of years before that.

  • Roman rule as part of Mauretania Tingitana (1st-5th centuries CE)
  • Arab conquest and Islamization (7th-8th centuries)
  • Series of powerful Islamic dynasties:Idrisid(788-974),Almoravid(1040-1147),Almohad(1121-1269),Marinid(1195-1465),Saadi(1544-1659), andAlaouite(1666-present)
  • French and Spanish protectorates (1912-1956)
  • Independence in 1956 under Sultan Mohammed V, who later became king
